  1. I worked for my uncle (construction) and there was a guy on the crew in 2nd year University. He said that he had to work full time in the summer in order to save up enough money to pay for his tuition, books, food, lodging, car payments, insurance and fuel for the entire year, so he could just focus on school. Not so do-able these days.

Yep. I did have loan, about $1000 when it was said and done. I extended my time out and took an extra year to complete the degree while working a couple days a week, and full time in the summer.

The job that pays like that one did doesn't exist these days, so the point is moot.
