It costs more for my grandson to go to preschool 3 days a week than it did for my college tuition for the whole year.

And it wasn't all that long ago that you could, if you were in the right fields, pay for an education with a part time job (assuming you had a place to live.)

When I look at what I make now, and what I made in 1995 (adjusted,) it's not that different - and my job is more skill-intense these days. It's roughly 200% more dollars than 1995.

Yet the college I went to is 568% more per credit hour. I took an entire quarter's load for what they charge for one class now, and would have had paid for most of my books as well.

  1. I worked for my uncle (construction) and there was a guy on the crew in 2nd year University. He said that he had to work full time in the summer in order to save up enough money to pay for his tuition, books, food, lodging, car payments, insurance and fuel for the entire year, so he could just focus on school. Not so do-able these days.

Yep. I did have loan, about $1000 when it was said and done. I extended my time out and took an extra year to complete the degree while working a couple days a week, and full time in the summer.

The job that pays like that one did doesn't exist these days, so the point is moot.

Stop going to colleges that cost that then.

You don't need college to be successful and it often will hamper your success.

Also, we need to ban (federally) all "useless" degrees as well as guaranteed loans from the gov. Without "free" debt from the government most people would never bother to go to college. We simply don't need that many people getting degrees (especially useless ones).

Get rid of loans and that will take care of itself.
