You know what I don’t regret? Going into the trades. For years I felt inferior because I didn’t have a college degree. Nevermind the fact that I had to go through a 5-year apprenticeship with over 1,200 hours of classroom instruction and over 8,000 hours of OTJ training.
The trades aren’t for everybody: it’s hard work, but it’s an honest day’s work for an honest day’s wage and I never go to bed with a troubled conscience
Never regret that.
I used to do work with Artificial Intelligence. The LAST jobs that will be automated will be the high skilled blue collar jobs like electrician, plumbing, etc. It's too hard to do those things.
And why should you be embarrassed to make (usually) 90K a year? That's a decent income. And some electricians I know make comfortably over $100K a year.
I have 5 degrees. Yes, five. I got them because one of my employers required us to "use it or lose it" so I went to college for 7.5 years and busted out degree after degree (if you go to the same uni, after the first degree, the next ones take a year because most of the credits carry over - little known fact for some of you but if you've gone to college for a bit, check other degree programs to see how far along in other degrees you are - you may just be 2-6 classes away from another degree or a double major). Only 2 of them were (past tense) useful. It was just to get my foot in the door. The real qualifications are the certifications I got.
