Entering the work force at 55, 200k in debt with 4 degrees for a 24k yr job.

Higher education at its finest. What did we learn?

"Most months, my bring home pay is $2,000"

How in the fuck do you have 4 degrees and barely make 500 dollars a week?

There are illegal immigrants picking fruit making more than this.

When your degrees are history, ancient Sumerian, womens studies, and interpretive dance, you ask if you’d like fries with that.

Well yeah, in that case, you're clearly clinically retarded. And I'd like ketchup with that.

Totally agree , I have a family member who is like that, has a doctorate and is completely useless. Thinks she should be making 200k a year after guaduating at 53 to be a holistic health practioner.

Is that job a euphemism for "hooker"?

A hooker would at least make money.

I have seen this when a candidate is sitting at my interview table - degrees in disparate disciplines with zero experience in the field that they're applying for.... if you are sitting across from me with a stack of degrees and no experience, chances are I will pass you by for another candidate with less schooling and some experience. I don't have an issue with degrees or education but in my industry, there's much more than bookwork and I do not want the drama that comes from a candidate with a Masters or two and no experience wanting a manager position or manger pay. Having multiple degrees in disparate discipline does not equate to investing in oneself, it show the lack of commitment.

I have three degrees; all in the natural evolutionary chain of my discipline - half of which GI Bill covered, the rest I got in loans which I am within the last 5% of paying off... even with two degrees and certs, I had to get a help desk gig at 15/hr to get the experience and network I needed to be where I am now.. the degree/cert will not work for you, you gotta get out there and work it; all these papers will do, is get you a phonecall.

As for the cat in the article... it didn't specify if his degrees were all related, but it did mention parent-plus loans... that's on him; fuck any excuse outside of that. as for failing health and inability to work - taking on that debt was a choice, and an informed one at that. Fuck any excuse outside of that. Guess pop is gonna have to get a side-gig or three. He's got at twenty years before retirement, make 'em count!

Same here, in fact my best employees do not have degrees and make the same in a year as this idiot owes in loans.

There's a simpler solution:

Step 1. Get a good life insurance policy. Step 2. Kill yourself and make it look like an accident. Step 3. Your family sleeps soundly at night.

Apologize for being such a fucking moron.

It gets worse, this drain on society asshole is obese, and is already having trouble working full time. " As my health deteriorates further, and I need to work fewer hours or not at all...."

And it's a single mother, of course. I don't think any of us would be surprised to find out if it was one of those poc people also.

Even worse - This drain on society informs and councils others as the expert on how to improve thier mental heath.

go back in time and pick an engineering degree, gender studies / philosophy loser

I'm no gambler, but I'd lay 100:1 odds that an attempt at a real degree would mean a first-term exit. Instead of the "smartness validation" that this one got by going into soft-(headed) "sciences"

Real degrees have weed out classes for this exact reason. "I can't hack it, boo hoo" says the indebted 55 year old. Yeah, you're either lazy or too low IQ to be in college. GTFO.

That's why surgery was invented. What surgery you ask? The one where you hack your knee off, sew it on backwards, and kick yourself in the ass for being a moron.

My kid was homeschooled, no college, owns a multi-million dollar construction business, employs dozens of people.

Other two homeschooled have a masters in engineering and a business masters.

They need to stop transferring debt upon death. That will reign in frivolous lending on such ridiculous degrees.

I always told my kids you need to do a cost benefit ratio.

Someone who is 30, spending 80k on an MBA , may find it pays back due to better job availability, but someone who is 50 is not going to see that return.

I am actually realizing Obama telling journalists learn to code meant don't write the truth, create a story for the outcome the ds wants.

Otherwise starve.

I for one support organ seizure for non-dischargeable debt such as student loans. Bust a deal, face the wheel.

If you can't calculate the servicing cost of $200k in debt after four degrees, you're too retarded to live.

> Q: I have 4 degrees and owe $197K in student loans. What should I do?

A: Pay it back..

It's a(-nother) symptom of a society heading in the wrong direction, when (((it's))) approving student loans without realistically assessing the potential return on the investment..

In Denmark there's a cap on how much time you can invest in education when on government support, which includes student loans (that incidentally has a pretty low interest rate).

This have effectively combatted the economically non-viable 'eternity-students', holding degrees in "worthless" skill and knowledge.
