Last week's was pretty interesting. I know a wee bit about this subject and have an opinion!

Your goal is to share your view. It's not "the best." It's "your favorite." It's also - why. Why is it your favorite. Try for at least two paragraphs.

Mine is the MG-42 (Maschinengewehr 42 or Machine Gun 42). You guessed it, it was produced starting in 1942. The thing has a great history, but I'm not going to get into it here. I highly encourage folks to look it up, it's awesome.

Anyhow, that son of a bitch put 1,200 rounds per minute. It was very reliable, easy to operate, and straight up effective. The wall of defensive fire these laid down in places was thick. They were true beasts

I'm pretty sure there were some varied configurations, but I can't remember all of them. I'm sure Wikipedia knows, or some other site out there has information about it. They were awesome firearms and anyone who doesn't appreciate them is just plain wrong.

They were pretty sweet. I don't want one, I want two.

There, that's a start. Teach me something about your favorite of these specific firearms. Tell me why they're your favorite.

You always steal the very best of the best for yourself - LOL. So since you took the MG-42, I'll go with the , often touted as the first true assault rifle.

I want 'em to tell me stuff I don't know. The 44 is a fine, fine weapon. I'm fairly familiar with it.

I don't discuss it much, because people tend to get rather passionate about telling me what I need or why I made a bad choice, but I have a nice collection of firearms. I don't have anything so fine as a 42 or a 44 in there.

I didn't have that many firearms until after I retired. I'm very familiar with them (was even on both the rifle and pistol teams in school, remember those?) but didn't own many until after I retired. There's still a lot more for me to learn.

This also seemed like a good question for Poaler Bears.

Nothing could have saved the Germans, they were fighting a war that couldn't have been won under the best of circumstances. Hitler didn't learn from Napoleon and never had the logistics for what he wished. German armaments were also a logistical nightmare. The number of different rounds of ammunition they needed to supply their troops with was a nightmare. Of course the majority of their weapons were chambered in either 8mm Mauser (the Mauser K98 rifle also being a fine weapon in its own right, though antiquated in some respects) and 9mm Parabellum for front line troops. The problem though was that they also adapted so many other firearms into their arsenal from the countries they conquered, along with a variety of domestic cartridges. I'll have to look to see if I can find the link I read on this, but it was a serious problem in their supply system and diverted other resources just to keep up.

No, they were pretty much fucked. They put up a hell of a fight, but they were well and truly fucked. Hoards of raging, possibly drunk, angry Russians is not actually an enemy I'd like to face. They rampaged through.

We probably could have stayed out of the European theater and just kept feeding the USSR potatoes to make vodka and eat, and some more equipment. The USSR was a beast. They pretty much angrily raped, murdered, pillaged, and burned their way to the capital. They'd have kept going, too. They were pretty pissed.

Given my limited fire arms knowledge. I have to go with the Maschinenpistole 28. Its a sub machine gun, so fully automatic which is cool. The MP 28 was produced by Haenel under the supervision of Hugo Schmeisser, it was copied by the Second Spanish Republic under the codename Naranjero. The Naranjero was chambered in 9mm Largo. Admittedly that last part was copied from wikipedia but I enjoyed reading the entry. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP_18#Evolution for anyone else that would like to read it.

I've seen that before. Did the tank crews carry something like that?

I believe that would be the MP 18 I don't think this one ever reached any wide spread adoption before the end of the war.

I've watched a ton of docs and read a bunch of books, but they were for entertainment. It's entertainment, not scholarly pursuits.

There's a ton I don't know about this subject.
