Those of us born in the West presently alive who are approaching old age had the very good fortune to grow up in the most free-thinking culture the world has ever seen. Repression and censorship are the norms for human history. They only seem strange to us because we have known intellectual freedom. But obviously, that golden time of free thought is over. The reason repression and censorship are the norms is that intellectual freedom destroys society. It can exist for a few decades, and it is a glorious time to be alive, but eventually it erodes the foundation of a healthy society. Society in the West is fighting for its life, which is why we will all probably be Muslim in a few decades. It is necessary for collective survival. It's why, in past centuries, Christianity was so oppressive -- it had to be, to keep society healthy.
