I used to love to read when I was younger. I still enjoy it, I just have a hard time sitting down with a book. But I see your point there. I see her's too thoigh that we should let kids read what interests them and they will like reading more.
I think strengthening imagination is something school is for, also creating a love for learning, and critial thinking. All of which schools don't really do now.
You have an excellent point with the practical hands on work though.
