I taught myself to read as well, I believe before kindergarten. Some kids are ready really early around 3 or 4 others are not ready until after 7 or even 9. We are homeschooling our kids. My daughter who is in first grade is having a hard time with reading, she also has some speech issues, and has not chosen a dominate hand, this article points to that she might not be ready to read yet. I will be continuing to work on phonics with her but I'm not going to push her to read as much. Homeschooling is great for all kids but it is really great for kids who are above the curve or below it.

Ah yeah, sorry to hear that. I wish you the best of luck. Really, no matter what, people should just be homeschooling. Nobody will ever have a child's best interests at heart like their parents. Government appointed stooges just can't even compare.

She will be fine, just has some trouble with beginning sounds but is getting help. She loves to be read to though so she will get there with her speech and her reading in her time. But thanks.

I agree that most if not all people should be homeschooling and I'm so glad that we are able to.
