To be fair they couldn't pass one of today's advanced student 8th grade tests that include some algebra and an understanding of general relativity (not the heavy math, just things like the speed of light). They had nothing else to do but get proficient at the English language and help out on the farm.

Yeah, I don't know who much a bushel is or it's volume. There were for sure some specifics of the time on that test.
However, I was impressed at the geography and history questions though. They required a lot of thought and didn't throw bs multiple choice questions at them.
