From the post:

>One of America's biggest department stores is shutting four locations. The once-booming JCPenney has faced falling sales, and has been slowly shrinking its footprint since the pandemic. The four closures are across as many states - Alabama, Texas, Maine and Maryland.

They've been just barely making it for a few decades now. They starting shooting themselves in the feet when they tried to get rid of their coupon sales in favor of lower prices. Turns out people like being fooled by coupons, and they stumbled. They've had other issues, bankruptcies, poor image, just general malaise and consumer sentiment - not to mention they're almost exclusively tied to the dying mall segment of retail.

They should have went out of business 4 years ago, but Brookfield decided to buy them for rape material.

Women like this.

I remember when they did it and I thought it was an awesome idea. I hate what I call the Kohl's model where they mark everything up to crazy levels and then you have to jump through all these hoops to get an item at a decent price. Then you are an absolute sucker if you buy anything without it being on sale and having a coupon.

I guess they play on the dopamine hit where people think they're getting a "bargain" when in reality all those coupons just brought it down to about 10% above where it should be.
