I came across an old newspaper clipping from the early 1960’s. A 10 pound bag of potatoes was $0.29. Wages were certainly lower but I don’t think wages have kept up with food price inflation.

In 1960 $4,000 a year was considered a good wage. Minimum wage was $1.00 an hour.
