Seriously, $20-30 in Santa Barbara? If you're a tech making $50,000 in Cleveland, OH, then Sperling's Cost of Living calculator suggests you'd need $164,000 in California.

This job has been open for at least a month. Wonder why they can't fill it?

I know that Sperling's is a dollar-for-dollar comparison. I could live on a lot less than what I make as well, but moving to that kind of area and starting over with the proceeds of a midwestern home sale means I'm still going to be taking on a hefty mortgage.

The more prudent point is you can make the exact same wage where I am in the midwest, and I do. I can only believe that this company is looking for H1B instead of citizens.

That's what they do. They advertise shit wages and then claim there's no workers available and they need H1B workers.

Yep. I get plenty of job contacts where they ask what your visa type is. They don't want a citizen.
