I've had a few potential jobs call me about positions in New York. I tell them the truth - it's a high tax, high liability state, and what you're paying (even though it's more than I make now) doesn't make up for that at all.

I hear ya. The same reason I ruled out Denver and Chicago. Everyone I still keep in touch with in Chicago has left after being there 20+ years. They work remote in cabins in the vacation areas of the state.
