The quantity of mail has decreased substantially, yet costs and employee numbers haven't adjusted with it.
However, all of their costs and people are sunk costs, i.e. the carrier will run the route if there's 1 letter or 1000 letters. Requires a carrier, a vehicle, and a route regardless of volume.
Perhaps we need to cut mail delivery to 2 days a week, get rid of weekend delivery, and charge junk mailers full price since you can't really argue they are "paying for everything else" anymore since "everything else" is losses.
I'd love to know exactly what day I'm going to have to clean the box out and fill up the recycle bin. I confess I don't know how this would work, I have people around me who literally get mailboxes full of junk on a daily basis. I mean 10-12 junk letters.
