It is very important to plan for your future and to not rely on things like the government or a company you work for to provide for your retirement. However, experiences are worth a whole lot more than that extra 8k sitting in the bank most of the time. He does have a point though. If you are fairly healthy and have longevity in your family it is likely you can reach 90 (as long as you didn't take that covid shot).

Also, you are completely right about vacations not needing to be expensive. Sometimes you may want to do something that costs more but you don't have to and if its not a regular thing it makes it more special.

Then again, there is something about being out in nature and under the stars with no light for miles. Most people don't seem to ever experience that anymore since they live in suffocating cities and never know what the night sky really looks like.
