People made fun of me around 10 years ago when I bought my current house because it was around 30 years old and not huge and new. I bought a home that was in a great area and about 1/3 of the mortgage that I qualified for. Now all of those same people are having problems affording their homes and may lose their homes or be forced to sell and downsize in a big way.

I know the feeling. I have friends who keep bewailing current mortgage rates and I just chuckle at them from my non-mcmansion that I own outright.
