Some companies don't like to keep older people. IBM has come under fire recently for such practices, and when I was applying for jobs a company called L3Harris had some reviews that mentioned older people being pushed out.
The other explanation is younger people are less set in their ways and are probably not going to demand an actual useful salary.

Oh I was just making fun of the article. Point being if they are such valuable employees, why are they unemployed? It's the geriatric equivalent of a single mom on a dating app "looking for a real man", you can't help wonder what was wrong with her.
