In your opinion, is it possible for a country to maintain a high standard of living and maintain national security purely on service economy with little to no manufacturing?

You can't create wealth from serving people. The automobile industry is what made the US middle class. Exporting most of our manufacturing has lead to a decrease in the middle class that isn't coming back. Welcome to living in a third world nation.

The problem then is that a consumer economy is created, which creates a soft, lazy populace. That causes r-selected liberalism/socialism to flourish. A superior K selected military cannot be built with fat soyboys inoculated with socialist ideals. That's the problem the US has right now. I hope the pendulum will swing to 'hard times and strong men' before it's too late.

What if the USA kept the manufacturing and jobs here in the USA? Can you imagine what this country would be like now?
