At 50% on-site capacity, I started to get fucked up in the head. Just stopped caring about schedule and timing. My boss told me it might be better if I was 100% back on site. Lo and behold, with my routine back to normal I'm back to being efficient.

It's 100%, either way. 50% doesn't work. I wouldn't mind going full remote or full on site given the black and white choice between the two. You can't mix it though.

The people who want to blanket decide to nope out of on site probably don't need to be doing that job. Their job probably isn't even necessary.

Plenty of necessary "office jobs" can be done remotely from home.

Too many managers like to micro manage and want to feel important. Can't do that over a Skype call or a person completing their tasks off site and off camera.

More importantly you suddenly need less managers if people are working remotely and everything is being done digitally and both turned in & signed digitally.
