Louise Fletcher, best known for her performance as Nurse Ratched in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, has died at age 88.

The actor died in her sleep surrounded by family at her home in Montdurausse, France, her agent told the Associated Press on Friday (23 September).

No cause of death was given.

She really nailed that performance, I'd read the book before I saw the film and both Nicholson and Fletcher were brilliant, and had a chilling chemistry onscreen together. One of the rare films that exceeds the expectations laid down by the novel.

Nurse Ratched was perhaps the most evil role ever portrayed on screen. A soulless woman intent on control of her workplace.
