Opium is a black sticky tar which is the latex (sap) of the opium poppy. It contains over a dozen drugs, with the main ones being morphine, codeine, thebaine and papaverine. These chemicals don't all work the same way. Thebaine, for example, is primarily a stimulant. Heroin is not a natural chemical. It is a synthetic chemical made from morphine. Its effects are similar to the effects of morphine, only stronger. The effects of both heroin and morphine are quite different from natural opium, because of the mix of chemicals found in natural opium. In a pure form heroin does not take a great toll on the body, but there are some side-effects. Constipation, Nausea, and Response time is slowed. Most heroin overdoses occur when heroin is combined with other drugs with a depressant effect, particularly alcohol and sleeping pills like Valium or Normison. Both morphine and heroin should never be consumed in any way by any person ever. Chances are if you saw a functional user you would never even know it. And chances are good that you do or have... Most people making claims about drugs or suspecting that they are "better" than someone who does drugs doesn't even know what the word actually means and are "drug" users themselves.
