After everyone began to assume that Odysseus was dead, everyone stopped caring for him and feeding him.
When Odysseus found him, he was lying in a pile of manure, malnourished, and covered in ticks and fleas. But he never stopped waiting for his best friend.
Always kind of made me think that Telemachus was a shit son, what sort of faggot would let his Father's dogs fall into that sort of condition.
