No matter how many dogs I’ve owned over the years, and no matter how many I’ve lost, it’s never easy.

My old Big Boy (aka Spocky, Mr. Spock, and Circle Tail) will be at peace Monday afternoon. At 121/2 years old he’s neither the oldest dog I’ve let go/lost, nor the youngest.

I’m fortunate enough to be hooked up with a vet who will do in home visits, and I’ve used his services before. The last time was about 3 years ago on my old black lab. It was a peaceful journey. I’m hoping the same for Monday. I would rather have had a natural death, as I’ve had twice in the past, but he’s simply in too much pain and waiting any longer is cruel. It is possible he’ll expire before Monday.

In the meantime, I lay with him, talk to him, stroke him, and tell him it’s okay.

I will spend the weekend preparing his final resting place. It will be atop his favorite place to lay in the yard. He will be number seven in our little pet cemetery, which is spread out across our 1.5 acre back yard. All are at rest in their favorite spots.

He IS a good boy and truly dindu nuffin.

Please give a nod to our Big Boy, and thanks for reading.

I had an old gal a number of years back that lived to 17. We are indeed fortunate to have them with us that long. Give your guy/gal and warm snuggle from me and Big Boy.
