If he doesn't display other types of "alpha" behavior towards you, he's more than likely telling others that "we were here", it's not directed at you.

The only reason I say this is because I looked it up after watching my buddy's dog for a while. He did the same thing.

Watch where they piss and piss right on top of it. If they see you do it they will probably mark it again too.

I try to pee outside as much as possible. Urine is good for the compost pile too.
