When I was growing up, gay people were starting to become accepted by society, but in my age group it was always a bad thing and a joke. My friends and some family members called each other fags if one of us did something the other didn't like and we never took serious offense to it.
Things changed around the mid-2000s during the introduction of social media and smartphone which allowed any faggot to be online and have their voice heard. MySpace, YouTube, Facebook and the iPhone were the catalysts to the downfall of our society and it's been falling apart every since, and I'm afraid that we will never go back to how society perceived faggots back then.
I remember gay first became a fad around 2004
Before that everyone would hush if they found out someone was gay, or threaten to beat them up (even though they were just posing). It was inconceivable to be gay.
