In 2017 at school, a classmate of mine has lost a USB flash drive with hours of homework in a PC room, and he could not find it again.

Data storage carried around is more exposed to the environment and more prone to getting lost.

Data storage used in a car (e.g. USB/CD/SD for music) is heavily exposed to temperature changes in the car's cabin.

If you carry data around, only carry copies, and/or set up a file server (e.g. FTP or WebDAV) at home.

And for paper note books (of which I have lost three during my school years, as far as I can remember), a quick backup method is pointing a video camera at it, preferrably one with 2160p (4K).

Bunch a different ones. The only thing I use those for is to move files from one pc to another. They are essentially flash drives. They have only a certain numbers of writes.
