This has once happened circa 2017 and another time in early 2020. The computer does no longer detect the device or shows some error message that the device was not detected properly.
Both were similar USB+OTG flash drives from HAMA. Possible technical reason at post bottom.
I must say I already have terrible experiences with HAMA flash storage.
But this metaphorically puts the cherry on top of the cake.
It might have been shortly after insertion into a Grundig RRCD 3720 CD/USB/SD/MP3/WMA player. But if it is that device's fault, it never fried any other flash drives than these two.
I measured the voltage and it never went above 5.1 V, but something that might have caused it:
Upon powering the RRCD 3720 boombox on, the USB port is powered for around a third of a second, then powers off for a second, then powers on continuously.
That short ~0.3s power-on might have caused it, but I can not confirm it. A too short power-on span and quick power-on/power-off's should not break any sane flash drive.
If that was the cause, it proves even more how shit Hama flash storage is.
