Some data losses I had years ago were caused by me wanting to make a backup of much at once and thus waiting for a good moment.

Now I know, messy and imcomplete junk backups are better than no backup.

Don't be afraid of being stigmatized as paranoid data hoarder. I could have prevented several data losses, had I been somewhat more paranoid.

I once beat the hell out of a hard drive to get it going again, actually worked. Snuck all of the data out through the ethernet port, was afraid if I shut it off again I'd never get it to work again.

I am glad it worked for you.

Me too! It contained just about every single DOS game and console ROM in existence. That was a close one.

After that experience, I set up a mirrored RAID. Hopefully that works out in the long run.

Actually, I should make a 3rd and 4th copy.
