I lived very close to a larger city center for a couple of years. I was always grouchy and short tempered and couldn't really figure out why.
Moved to a much quieter and spaced out community a LONG way from the city center and my mood improved a lot. Traveling back to the city center/area I notice that there is just some constant "hum" or something that never stops even at night. It is infuriating at least to me. That is not even taking into account all of the damn people, shitty drivers and crime.
You are so right. Very much better listening to birds during the day and frogs at night!
Until now I had never lived somewhere that you only hear crickets at night and not a ton of car noise/honking/police/etc..
Its still too "big" for me with how I feel and I want even more space in a even quieter place but its an improvement.
As much as I've always yearned, like you, for lots of land way out in the country, now that I'm getting older, it's nice not being too, too far from civilization.
It's a quiet little place that, so far, still has the designation 'village'. Everytime I think of that, I have visions of torches and pitchforks! 😄
