Maybe so, it’s a long loop. I was thinking it could have started out as a trail of them across the roof, climbing over each other to get there at first. The weight and gravity pulled them away. A small loop at first, then gradually growing longer and longer as more ants and more weight joined the fray. Hard to say, it’s a pretty clever approach however it was accomplished!
