Part of that is that right-wingers felt like they got a big win when the media came out and pushed the Wuhan Lab Leak Hoax. “Media admits that Trump was right!” is something that carries a lot of weight with these people, regardless of the content of the claim. But the other part is that people want to believe in the virus because they believe that completely inventing the concept that there is a virus is too big of a hoax, even for the hoax masters.
