Very similar, yes. The US has no pressing reason to consider reunifying with the UK, and proposing such a referendum would be treasonous.
I give you a point for trying but I don't think it's a great analogy. I don't think the identity and culture of China and Taiwan are as far separate as the US and UK.

While I fully agree that the Taiwanese are between a rock and a hard place, they have more latitude to steer their own course as a US ally than as a communist possession.

That is not my position. China is being used as a distraction for problems at home and also in ramping up for a conflict our country is, yet again, being used as an attack dog in service of this stupid Talmudic NWO.
The pretenses for being used this way are stupid, and it's worth pointing that out. But ultimately even if China was being immoral towards Taiwan or being mean to their Muslims or whatever, it shouldn't matter to anyone here. Especially when the real motives are so obvious.
