Yeah, and I tend to see extremely technical arguments bog things down rather than clarify. If one was trying to muddy the waters you could prescribe this approach: Condescension ('you obviously know nothing about x') followed by some bullshit argument centered around technical minutiae. Easy way to get someone arguing with you about shit they don't understand (and you don't have to either), instead of having them point out the more obvious supporting evidence. I see it often.
