Wondering if we will ever learn what set this dude off.

I think Anglin is fair to guess at divorce/child loss as a factor in the cause. I would guess there's a lot of people who are this nihilistic and angry with society, but if you have something to lose you're not going to go on a rampage like this. Maybe ability is also a factor. I know with altruism research, a key factor in making the decision to risk your own life to save someone else's is a belief you have the ability that no other bystanders would. A formerly trained lifeguard is more likely to jump in the water to save someone from riptide because he knows he's likely the most qualified bystander around to help. If we assumed the same calculations were made on the part of malcontents, this dentist might have assumed he was uniquely able to unleash misery on the world because of his penchant for impersonating mounties.

With the divorce thing, kill the bitch, don't bring innocents into it. Idk. Obviously he had a screw loose.

What makes it interesting is the examples of people who knew him saying he was a nice person and how unlike him this was. It's easy to say that anyone who would give in to that dark impulse to wreak havoc on and destroy the lives of innocents is psychologically defective. But what if just the right conditions were met to unlock a seriously evil part of human nature that all of us carry within?
