There are many bad situations short of an apocalypse in which having some Bitcoin could be useful. Such as hyperinflation.
Same as having some extra cash stored outside a bank. Same as having ammo and food stockpiles.
There are many possible less-than-apocalypse scenarios it makes sense be ready for.
Sure, valid comments. "Value" is only the value people put on things. As long as people are willing to trade goods and services for it, it carries value. In a real Apocalypse it is worthless but short of that may be very useful.
But Bitcoin is massively over-hyped. The fact that it bills itself as a 'anonymous' where in fact blockchain all but guarantees that every transaction ever is logged and recorded smells like a dead fish. It's not a 'anonymous, counter culture, de-centralized currency' ... rather it is 'Orwellian, big brother, total monitoring currency'
If that was your gripe with it you should have just said that in the first place.
There is probably some truth to that, but privacy is not why it's being advocated here. Nor should having some bitcoin be seen as a total buy-in to it. This article is advocating buying a little basically for the purposes of lowering your risk of being locked out of your money.
You want to be prepared for the total apocalypse? Buy a farm with a well that produces all the water you'll need and build fortifications around it and maybe have an underground bunker as well.
Agreed. I'm not saying having a little BTC is a bad idea... I'm saying that it is over-hyped. I see folks in the prepper community that seem to think it is some panacea that can solve all of the worlds currency issues... and it is just not.

if only...
