Ok but then wouldn't the counterpoint to that be servers are one thing but computers used for office work are another?
It seems like the main reason Windows has the monopoly that it does is because you can run it without being technically savvy and its services will be compatible with what the other office monkeys are using.
If you want a proofreading let me know.
Obviously that would be a good counter point but there are linux OSs that are just as good if not better than windows, even for games. I've seen plenty of instances that show windows games run better under wine than they do on windows. As far as other apps go wine is a really good technology.
If I actually write it up I will for sure send it too you first. I've got to finish my paperwork today then I might actually pen a letter I doubt it'll go anywhere but I might do it anyway.

That's 50% of the reason why windows has a monopoly. The other 50% is that it came preinstalled in every new PC sold on the market since decades. THAT, is the true power of windows, that's how MS took over the whole market in the first place, placing itself and its products as the average user's gold standard for decades. Retro compatibility was a thing too, with its downsides, but I digress
That being said, remember that one often had to run into some crazyshit technical problems with windows, less now, but claiming windows has always been a plug and play no hassle system technically speaking is a fucking stretch
Apple has been much closer to "hassle free" than windows when it comes to technical issues, historically speaking, that's how they survived "it just works"
But then with apple you had the compatibility problem, that's the downside of the apple echo system, always has been
...
Now, if you take ubuntu, that's pretty plug and play, especially with the ubuntu store, given that your computer isn't specifically designed to run with useless proprietary cogs... And they do it on purpose, because what's the point of yet another proprietary soundcard driver? It's just a fucking driver, but they want it to remain a proprietary blackbox... Why?
Now yes you can run into shits with ubuntu, but you always run into just as much shits whether you're on mac or windows, it's just different time consuming shits in the end, but time consuming nonetheless... At the end of the day it's a matter of habits
