Oh, I quite agree. But the point is that Ted opposed technological advancement. There are only two paths for mankind: advance or decline. Had he lived in a culture without technology, he'd have clawed his way out of it. All of his bad ideas were picked up at university, taught by tenured, comfortably secured professors. Imagine if he had gone to a community college and become an auto mechanic in his youth. What a happier man he would have been.
