Hm. Not familiar enough with my wood (lol) to know the difference. Just really like the look.

What are the cross sectional pieces holding the boat together called?

The cross sectional pieces are just parts of the form/mold. Each strip is glued to one another and then fiberglassed and this holds the shape.
