Very cool. Where you source the wood? Hardware store, friend, or planed at home?

The cedar came from a professional builder who also sells milled strips. The wood for the gunwales and seat came from a tree I cut and milled. Plywood for the forms from Lumberyard.

Hm. Not familiar enough with my wood (lol) to know the difference. Just really like the look.

What are the cross sectional pieces holding the boat together called?

[–] 1 pt

The cross sectional pieces are just parts of the form/mold. Each strip is glued to one another and then fiberglassed and this holds the shape.

Fucking hell that's beautiful! Can I have your workshop when you're done with it, I promise I'll take care of it? Just forever!

That looks awesome! I hope you have some nice weather to enjoy it.

Nice work, how many hours do you have in that?

[–] 1 pt

I really don’t know. I have been working on it offf and on for about a year. Best guess if 150 hours.

I want to start a new hobby, what species of wood is best for making jewelry medallions? I thought walnut, but I don’t have experience in woodworking. The canoe is beautiful. Was the caning complicated?

[–] 2 pts

Walnut, maple or some other tight grained hardwood. The caning is not complicated, just a process. This is the first time caning for me. I learned by watching YouTube videos.
