Captain Yvonne Gray (stuff.co.nz)

Gray’s decision to abandon ship is being praised with saving the lives of the 75 people on board.

Mental gymnastics. I guess no one thought perhaps she shouldn't have run the ship aground. Just sayin'

in 2012, Gray moved to New Zealand with her wife

Well, now we know her qualifications: Gray is gay.

The diversity hire (gayexpress.co.nz)

Detractors have gone as far as to label her a “diversity hire,”

she initially aimed to be a teacher

Frankly, sinking a ship was a safer career move.

Yeah no shit. They would be dead otherwise. It wouldn't surprise me if they started to abandon ship and some of them told her "make it an order or you'll have 75 court martials to deal with you stupid DEI hire".

Right... this is some high level cope.

I don't even know how this could be a mistake. Aren't these ships equipped with depth sounding equipment? Heck 19 foot boats that draw 12 inches of water have them.

'It could of happened to any lesbeeun Captain attempting to parallel park !'

They GPS charts in addition to all that. They should not have been anywhere near that area. Even locals on the shore were visually tracking the ship and able to tell it was too close to this known hazard.
