I'm at a friend's place and I witnessed a brand new Maytag washer being installed. Guess what? If you said, the washer didn't work, that would be correct. I told my friend his expectations were simply too high.

This is less DEI and more the fact that consumer appliances have been a race to the bottom for decades.

Maytag was purchased by Whirlpool some years ago, and Whirlpool is quantity over quality. Whirlpool and GE bought up a lot of the other smaller names - Maytag, Jenn-Aire, Roper, Amana, KitchenAid, with mergers like Hotpoint/GE and RCA brands happening years ago. Some of those names were traded back and forth like trading cards with Whirlpool owning most of them, including the once GE staple of Hotpoint.

Point is, the DNA in a modern Maytag appliance extends no further than the label on the front. The rest is just Whirlpool being Whirlpool. At least they aren't attaching uncoated aluminum spiders to stainless steel and immersing them in an ionic transfer bath anymore.

GE is no better, they sold their appliances division to Haier of China some years ago, and the GE meatball has a limited run life left for appliances.
