I don't know how much money he had, but it is very unlikely he had it all just sitting in a bank account. With that said it is quite possible that he was using that bank to do angel investing and that the startups he was funding also used that bank. This could mean multiple exposure as the startups fail from this.
But he is still famous and can easily bank on that to always be rich and never work a day in his life.
