It depends how you look at the data. For NYC murders it's 20% committing 62% of the murder. If you look at males, it's likely 10% committing 60%. What's way, way worse are per capita numbers, how much more likely are blacks to murder per person? There are only 1,776,891 blacks in NYC out of 8,804,190 residents, which is 20.2%, yet they are 61.7% of the arrestees for murder. Whites are 42.7% of the population, but are only 3.9% of the murder arrestees. Blacks are 33.4 TIMES more likely to murder someone than Whites in NYC. That means if you don't cross the street, you are 33.4 times more likely to be murdered by a random black you encounter than a White in NYC. The statistics are ballpark for all of the other crime, and way worse for "shootings".
