Can’t webm be compromised?

Webp had some issues. Webm is completely different with who made it etc. I think it is like a restricted mkv with vorbis and vp9 so that it has a very high compatibility.

Google is behind both formats right now.

It looks like they are the current people for webm, but the format was done without them (unlike webp).

Already beyond my scope. I think I was regurgitating something I read on here a few days ago.

webp is for pictures, and i think is pushed by apple. mkv is just a container to hold video, audio, etc. streams. webm is also just a container, but is strict about what you put in it. vorbis is a free audio codec (like mp3) and vp9 is a free video codec (like hevc, avc, etc.) so the combination of all of these things means that files can be produced and played back without any patent issues (unlike everything else).
