Evolution gave us an immune system that took millions of years to refine. Look after it and it looks after you.
I was watching some immunology lectures not long ago, and the human immune system is actually way stronger than it needs to be for the modern age. Humans evolved as parasite ridden messes, and the first thing any parasite does is it retards the immune system, so it can, ya know, live. The human immune system evolved to be able to do it's job all while being severely handicapped by parasites that modern humans don't have anymore.
