tl;dr: It is known that viruses send proteins into the nucleus of infected cells to change the gene expression to inhibit the immune response. Researchers have now identified one of the proteins used by SARS-CoV-2 to do that.

Fun fact: Such proteins get transported by so called importins into the nucleus. Ivermectin fights SARS-CoV-2 (and a lot of other viruses) by blocking the importins, allowing the cell to create the stuff needed to alarm the immune system (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0166354219307211).
