Monday I made a thread about some gig work at a large site (Amazon warehouse) where masks are mandated. Lasted 4 days lol and I just broke in the crew I was working with re the masks. Resistance from one of the lead techs but today finally, no one said anything to me. Until we were packed up and ready to go home. One of the safety reps came up to me and we had a 'chat'. All's good until the foreman sees the safety rep talking to me about the mask. Pretty much the whole crew understands the covid bullshit but while on the job it's a different matter. He got pissed and reminded me it can get back to him to which I fully agreed. I told him I can't wear it, he told me I can go. And I did.

I'm a self-employed contractor and for the past two years, I have been able to skirt the mask issue somewhat because I work alone and usually in telecom rooms. I'll wear it briefly when I have to but take it off the first chance I get. This place was different because it's wide open space with many trades. Employees for the past two years have been wearing their masks consecutively every day. They have been conditioned where I am not. I tried to but I couldn't do it. Not only because it's insane but it's fucking gross. 20 minutes and it's moist as fuck. 2 hours and it's dripping wet. Fucking disgusting is what it is, unhygienic. So I left. Called my customer and let him know what went down but I already prepared him before hand. He's vaxxed but seems like a reasonable guy. Told me he needs my expertise so not all is lost. Just have to do jobs for him where I can still have dominion over my own fresh air.

Fuck the masks.

What I don't understand is why construction companies don't push back. Where are the people with spines? I know the steady paycheque prevents that but i'm talking about the guys at the top, owners etc. At least, for the love of god, change the mandate to a 'common sense' approach. The building I was in was at least 1000' x 500' with every loading bay door open. The place is massive. You can stand there without a mask your entire life and you will not catch the coof.
