Nazi party members were volunteers, as were the SS. Wehrmacht, Kreigsmarine, Luftwaffe were conscripts and by and large were charged with no crimes at all outside of a few exceptional cases after the war, and in most cases absolutely praised for their fighting ability. Adolf Galland for instance was well respected after the war in the west, involved himself with the movie industry, and flat out threatened to quit at least one movie when the script required people to throw up the nazi salute which he vocally objected to. Von Braun was a volunteer party member.
