One of the things that annoys me to no end is that people equivocate taking the oath of office on a religious book with a Christian taking the oath of office on the bible. The christian belief system is very clear that one cannot tell a lie. There are no exceptions for non Christians or any other groups. The Koran and Talmud are very clear that their believers are allowed to lie to certain groups. Therefore a non-Christian taking the oath of office on a religious book (bible, koran, or otherwise) is essentially meaningless.
Everyone should still be forced to take the oath of office and there should be severe penalties for violating it. However, taking the oath on a jewish bible should be seen as the equivalent of taking the oath while holding a live chicken and balancing one foot. Your doing something, but it has no bearing to the actual oath itself.
