I don't think "long COVID" is anything other than some people having prolonged symptoms following a viral infection (not specific to COVID at all) combined with a confirmation bias, in that people are told to fear and be on the look out for "long COVID". However, "long COVID" is such an ill defined and nebulous entity that any symptom can be attributed to it and a large number of susceptible people may be inclined to psychosomatically induce their own symptoms as well. As a disease, it is so ill defined as to be meaningless. That does not mean that some people who have COVID, and some people who have other diseases caused by viruses or bacteria experience prolonged symptoms of various sorts, but it's nothing that is specific to COVID itself.
